The Remissions Specialist is responsible for processing daily payment deposits as well as posting general insurance and patient payments to patient accounts. This is an ideal position for someone who has great attention to detail, 10-key experience, the ability to effectively work in a team as well as independently, and great communication skills. Medical experience is preferred but not required.

*This is a 40 hr/week position, Monday - Friday.

DUTIES

  • Coordinates on a daily basis with all WHA sites and satellite offices to ensure patient and physician scheduling needs, patient demographics and information, and questions resulting in scheduling are met.
  • Reconciles personal, insurance and over the counter remittances daily.
  • Records and balances bank deposits and prepares for courier daily.
  • Assembles and mails refund checks.
  • Retrieves, copies and distributes EOBs for Patient Account Specialists.
  • Enters telephone credit card information into credit card system.
  • Posts personal payments to patient accounts.
  • Posts insurance payments and adjustments to patient accounts.
  • Audits and deposits daily over-the-counter receivables from clinics and interacts with patient services staff.
  • Deposits miscellaneous checks.
  • Downloads electronic batches from bank website.
  • Enters daily deposits on deposit log.
  • Works with internal customers (such as patient accounts and patient services staff) to identify and resolve issues including clinic batch discrepancies or charge adjustment decisions.
  • Documents resolutions, inquiries and status in account notes.
  • Audits, prepares, inputs, signature stamps and mails refunds.
  • Updates patient address files and prints updated information to appropriate clinic site.  Performs data entry of patient address changes from Post Office notices.
  • Scans paper EOBs to make remittance data available electronically.
  • Maintains files and documentation for offsite storage.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to file accurately by alphabet and number.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding, including ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS required.
  • Keyboard and personal computer skills, including data entry and 10-key by touch required.
  • Prior experience with or the ability to learn Microsoft Windows-based computer and medical practice management billing software required.
  • Working knowledge of insurance billing procedures, EMC and HCFA claim forms.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
  • Ability to demonstrate the Values Statement and The Patient Experience of WHA.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
