The Mammography Technologist performs all digital mammography in the highest quality for interpretation in a timely, professional manner.

DUTIES

  • Performs all digital mammography in the highest quality for interpretation.
  • Ensures that all ACR and MQSA standards are met.
  • Maintains and ensures proper continuing education is met, as required for FDA inspections.
  • Monitors quality assurance program in accordance with the American College of Radiology and the FDA standards; Screen Erasure (Daily), Viewing Conditions (Weekly), Phantom Images (weekly), Visual check list (Monthly), Repeat Analysis (Quarterly), Darkroom Fog (Semi-Annually), Compression Function (Semi-Annually).
  • Makes independent decisions regarding quality mammographic images.
  • Reports any changes in quality assurance testing or quality of the mammograhic image.
  • Ensures that mammography comparisons are made from two years back by Radiologist.
  • Assists mammography assistant in any job needed to ensure that the patient is getting the proper follow up.
  • Provides protection for patient and self in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Conscious effort is made to provide quality mammography with the least amount of discomfort.
  • Offers self breast exam instruction.
  • Reports all incidents involving patients and employees on proper incident report forms.
  • Employs sterile techniques as needed.
  • Recognizes and records variances from normal equipment function and reports the need for service appropriately.
  • Maintains supplies in work area.
  • Takes responsibility for and demonstrates safe work practices, including maintaining a clean, well-ordered work area.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current license with the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging. 
  • Registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Mammography certification through the ARRT.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Skill in proper patient positioning and immobilization.
  • Specialized mammography training required.
  • Must be willing to become certified in Bone Densitometry.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
