Our Financial Counselors provide assistance to clinicians, staff and patients concerning billing procedures and account inquiries. You will ensure that patients are advised of financial responsibility and facilitate patient payment via collection of deposits, payment plan schedules, and financial assistance when applicable. You'll help our patients navigate the complex world of insurance benefits and cost, empowering people as consumers of healthcare every day.  The ideal candidate will be compassionate, detail-oriented, a self-starter and have excellent people skills with both medical office and insurance experience.

This is a 40 hr/week position, Monday-Friday at our Hillsboro office.


  • Answers questions from patients, staff and clinicians concerning complex insurance benefits.
  • Responds to clinician and staff requests for insurance information, especially as it relates to coding issues and clarification.
  • Meets personally with patients to review their benefits and arrange a payment schedule.
  • Verifies eligibility and benefits coverage utilizing insurance websites when applicable.
  • Obtains authorization for same-day surgeries, procedures, CTs and MRIs as ordered by the clinicians.
  • Determines whether authorization is necessary for gynecological problem visits for Medicaid patients and requests authorization as needed.
  • Follows up on authorization process to ensure that scheduled visits will be covered by Medicaid when billed as anticipated.
  • Ensures patients complete appropriate forms as needed.
  • Adequately and thoroughly explains each form to the patient.


  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Medical office experience required, preferably in an OB/GYN medical group practice.
  • At least one year of experience in medical billing preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding, including ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS required.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills in order to resolve complex billing issues required.
  • Knowledge of local and major national medical insurance practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of collection law and practices preferred.
  • Excellent people skills a must.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
