We are seeking a Medical Technologist to work in our Central Lab. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing testing on specimens, maintaining instrumentation and equipment, laboratory documentation, and reporting results to appropriate authorities.  

*This is a 40 hour/week position at the Central Lab in Tigard with some travel to clinic sites as needed.  This position will be working between the hours of 1-9:30pm.  

DUTIES

  • Performs moderate and high-complexity laboratory tests, as requested by licensed clinicians authorized to order diagnostic testing in the State of Oregon.
  • Understands and follows established laboratory procedures throughout the pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical phases of testing.
  • Adheres to the Quality Assurance Plan implemented by the Laboratory Director.
  • Records test results accurately into the Laboratory Information System.
  • Reports test results promptly to ordering clinicians, within specified turn-around times.
  • Runs and quality control specimens on all assays and procedures as required. Evaluates results using Westgard rules, and troubleshoots as necessary.
  • Tracks, evaluates, and releases data received from reference laboratories.
  • Monitors laboratory instruments for proper operation, and troubleshoots issues.
  • Performs and logs preventative maintenance on lab equipment.
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager in the evaluation and implementation of the new assay procedures.
  • Reports specimen and test non-conformities to appropriate personnel.
  • Conducts inventory of lab supplies, replenishes supplies and discard containers.
  • Maintains a clean work area and properly disposes of bio-hazardous waste.
  • Assists in updating lab procedure manuals.
  • Prepares and routes specimens to reference laboratories, as appropriate.
  • Answers phone and notify proper personnel regarding unexpected or action limit test results.
  • Serve as back-up laboratory assistant within the Central Laboratory, assisting in accessioning and specimen routing.
  • Occasional travel to WHA clinic sites, assisting in specimen collection/processing, participating in quality assurance investigations, and assisting in training.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, or related science, or the equivalent combination of classroom training and/or work experience.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist through ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience with, or the ability to learn, laboratory and instrument software.
  • Proficiency in each area of laboratory testing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of use and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Proven effective communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively work with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through in great detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to demonstrate The Values Statement and The Patient Experience of WHA.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
