The Clinical Nurse Manager collaborates with practice managers, supervisors and training specialists, partners on staff clinical education across WHA. Evaluates clinical competency for nursing and patient care staff. Collaborates with clinicians, supervisors, training and other departments to ensure the highest standards of patient care are pursued. Participates in quality improvement initiatives for Women's Healthcare Associates, LLC. Facilitates development and implementation plans for clinical policies, protocols and processes across the organization. Acts as a liaison to the QI and Risk Management Committee to support improvement in clinical practice service quality and regulatory compliance. 

DUTIES

  • Assists in the communication, training, implementation, and evaluation of established patient care protocols and guidelines
  • Collaborates with medical providers, clinical staff, training, and department leadership in the planning, implementation, and delivery of educational curriculum.
  • Participates with multi-clinic, multi-disciplinary workgroups to develop and implement clinical policies and processes across the organization.
  • Partners with practice managers and training in identifying on-going training needs with respect to clinical protocols and EMR effectiveness. Reinforces the teachings on both clinical processes and EMR effectiveness as an extension of the Director of Clinical Informatics and Quality Improvement.
  • Initiates clinical skills development programs within the parameters of established clinical and preceptorship models; monitors trends and implements educational strategies to ensure compliance with quality standards and parameters.
  • Educates clinical staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and workshops for appropriate staff.
  • Provides educational leadership to clinical staff and care providers to enhance patient care within established clinical protocols.
  • Utilizes training outline and determine instructional methods, including group instruction, individual training, demonstrations, meetings and workshops for clinical staff.
  • Utilizes teaching aids such as training handbooks, handouts, demonstration models, multi-media visual aids, tutorials and evaluations for the clinical staff.
  • May test employees to measure progress and evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • May conduct needs assessment and workflow evaluation for development of training curriculum.
  • Monitors trainees progress, offers guidance and makes corrections as needed.
  • Regular check-ins with RN preceptors and/or new RNs during initial training period to provide any needed additional support
  • Rolls out annual competency structure to patient care supervisors and practice managers. Partners with clinical supervisors to ensure completion and provide additional support where needed.
  • Assists patient care supervisors to coordinate education for employees with problems performing specific tasks related to their position as needed.
  • Makes suggestions on improving work procedures.
  • Participates on committees and special projects.
  • Consults with and serves as a clinical resource for practice managers to ensure quality patient care.
  • May assist with initiating site audits and analysis of results to identify further training needs.
  • Assists with survey or accreditation readiness.
  • Assists patients, clinicians, and staff with educational needs, problem resolution, and health management across the continuum of care.
  • Assists with clinical policy review, revision and compliance (QI, RN, EMR guidelines, updates). Drafts protocols, policies and procedures relating to patient care and medical management as directed by the Director of Clinical Informatics and Quality Improvement. Establishes nursing protocols as needed.
  • Serves as a resource for EMR utilization for clinical staff training.
  • Keeps current with emerging best practices in ambulatory care as it pertains to support staff's clinical practices.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Partners with practice manager to roll-out and/or reinforce clinical and EMR standards for WHA. This may include call group and staff presentations.
  • Takes responsibility for and demonstrates safe work practices.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Maintains WHA confidentiality standards.
  • Attends WHA and office meetings.
  • Models The Values Statement and The Patient Experience of WHA.

QI AND SAFETY:

  • Facilitates QI projects and QI measures for QI Committee meetings.
  • Attends and participates in Risk Management, HIM, and QI Committees.
  • Aligns quality and safety activities with strategic goals.
  • Coordinates the reporting of information to the QI Committee.
  • Provides input and helps set goals for QI Committee meetings, QI initiatives and developing quality indicators.
  • Researches information related to quality management, including reviewing patient medical records, collecting data and investigating areas of identified interest and importance. Shares information and participates in the PEER Review Committee.
  • Compiles, analyzes and summarizes data and presents recommendations to the Director of Clinical Informatics and Quality Improvement.
  • Partners with project support staff to synthesize and present information gleaned from Data and Analytics for QI review. Helps generate laparoscopic surgery and in-office surgery data for presentations or PEER Review Committee.
  • Works with hospital QI staff in cooperative efforts with respect to WHA clinicians defined by the QI committee.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in Nursing and two years of equivalent work experience required. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Valid license as an RN in the State of Oregon required.
  • Experience in root-cause analysis and case review.
  • Prior experience in applicable quality improvement preferred, including data abstracting and analysis, facilitation skills, and use of CQI techniques.
  • Experience in OB/GYN, labor and delivery and/or surgery preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ) or the ability to become certified within one year of employment preferred (for specialization in QI/Safety positions).
  • Certified Professional in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or the ability to become certified within 3 months of employment required.
  • Demonstrated success in service excellence and quality improvement.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret journals, reports, charts, and documents.
  • Knowledge of proper business writing standards for letters, memos and other internal and external correspondence.
  • Proven effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook). Database skills preferred.
  • Valid driver's license or the ability to procure transportation to various WHA sites and meetings.
  • Ability to demonstrate The Values Statement and The Patient Experience of WHA.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
